Ever built a boat? Ever thought about it? Ever been envious of Special Agent Jethro Gibbs on NCIS as he builds his boat by hand? Then we have just the experience for you. Learn traditional boat building at The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum's Apprentice for a Day program.
Drop in and spend a day doing just that…build a boat by hand. No extended time commitment. No expensive deposit. Just hands-on learning under the guidance of an experienced Museum shipwright.
They don't make boats like the 16' Delaware Ducker anymore. Unless of course you participate in the Apprentice for a Day program! The Apprentice for a Day program has been building these traditional Chesapeake skiffs by hand, out of cedar and oak.
Nominal Fees apply. Courses are subject to availability and advanced reservations required. For more information, please contact:

Take home your own Delaware Ducker
Want to enjoy the fruits of your labor? Why not purchase a Delaware Ducker to take home with you. The Skiffs built and sold as part of the AFAD program support the program's continuation.
The Duckers come complete with sails and oars. They are a piece of Chesapeake Bay history and gems of wooden boat building. If you are interested in owning your own hand-built Delaware Ducker, please contact Dan Sutherland, contact details above.
