For the Landlubber

Treat yourself to a relaxing and rejuvenating treatment at The Linden Spa. Our very own luxury spa is just a few steps away from your guest room and offers a variety of treatments - body massage, feet, hand and scalp treatments, facials, manicures, waxing, yoga, and by request, personal training and assessments. Consider some well needed restorative pampering and then maybe a spa luncheon or Afternoon Tea in the Morning Room (think mantra, "oooh, ahhh, yum!").

Go for a swim in our heated edgeless pool which is open from Memorial Day through to the end of September (at all times weather permitting). In the private pool courtyard adjacent to the Linden Spa you will find our beautiful pool – long enough for lap swimming and secluded within our beautiful gardens - enjoy the refreshing water or bask in the sun. A pool bar with food services is there as well, but remember to leave room for dinner!

Take a carriage ride through St. Michaels - for up to four people. The cost is approximately $120 for an 1.5 hour ride. Champagne, wine or sparkling cider can be served or if you would like to arrange a snack through our kitchen, we will be happy to make the arrangements. Rides are weather-permitting. Please allow at least 48 hours notice to make and confirm the tour. Call the Front Desk at Ext. 205 to make arrangements.
   Wine

Stop by the St. Michaels Winery for a glass or wine or arrange to bring a group for a wine tasting. Located in an historic old mill, they have boutique wines that are available here in St. Michaels.

If the brew is more to your liking than a visit to the Eastern Shore Brewing Co. is a must when you're here. This is craft brewed beer from Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Plan on a road trip to Oxford, MD via the Oxford Ferry. Established in 1653, The Bellevue-Oxford ferry crosses the Tred Avon River from approximately 7:30 am to dusk in 20 minute intervals. Bring your car, bicycle or come as a passenger for a trip back in time. The crossing costs about $9. During Autumn and Winter check for crossing availability, if at all.

Stroll around the bedroom community of Oxford. There are two very good antique shops, one being Americana, 410-226-5677, 111 South Morris Street, but don't be afraid to walk down the small side streets and investigate. There are many beautiful houses and interesting boat yards - a simple way to review local marine and land architecture as it is a village of elegant homes, stores, boatyards and restaurants. Notable are the following: Latitude 38 and Schooner's Landing.

And, for a long day trip into near wilderness, consider Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Dorchester County, South of Cambridge, MD, about one hour from the Inn. It is internationally recognized for the preserve itself and the coincidence of many migratory birds nesting and resting in this near wilderness. There is limited access via hiking trails, a visitors center and observation platform and guided tours are available.

In early November each year the Town of Easton hosts the Waterfowl Festival. This is an extraordinary event that raises awareness and funds to help preserve the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries on the Eastern Shore. The center of downtown Easton is cordoned off to traffic and has exhibits, demonstrations and associated Festival events. Street musicians perform and service organizations sell and serve home made food, beverages and snacks. If you are an art collector or admirer this is the festival for you. Museum quality work is displayed in several venues and most are for sale. Crafts and collectibles are also available. Make sure to allow time to see the waterdogs/retriever demonstrations.

If you would like to go to the resort towns along the Atlantic Coast (about two hours from the Inn), we can give you maps and make suggestions for places to visit. The typical day trip is Ocean City, MD. We highly recommend the towns north of Ocean City particularly Rehoboth and Lewes, Delaware. South of Rehoboth are the resorts of Dewey Beach and Fenwick Island, with beautiful beaches, peaceful water views and shopping.

A great way to see the sea (actually the Delaware Bay at the mouth of the Delaware River between Delaware and New Jersey) is to plan a crossing on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry. It crosses the Delaware Bay to Cape May, New Jersey and back to Delaware on an hourly schedule. Cape May is an old Victorian sea coast town and and has much to see and do.

The Commonwealth of Maryland offers a Scenic Byways map and related touring book broken down into regions. This is an excellent source for tour planning and gives insight into the various tourist attractions and natural features of the state.
